Get ready, 'Will Trent' fans, because Season 4 is diving deep! Our favorite Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent is facing some major life changes, and it's going to be a rollercoaster. But will therapy be the key to his healing? Let's dive in!
At the start of the season, Will is still reeling from the events of last season. He's got a newfound father in Caleb, a possible maternal figure in Amanda, and the news that Angie, with whom he shares a complicated bond, is expecting a baby with Seth.
We've got an exclusive sneak peek at the premiere on January 6th, and while we can't reveal too much, let's just say Will is back on familiar, yet unsettling ground.
Fast forward five months: Angie is well into her second trimester, and both Ormewood and Amanda are recovering, though still bearing the marks of their experiences. The time jump, according to executive producer Daniel Thomsen, allows the writers to skip the less pleasant parts of recovery and jump straight into the emotional aftermath of the season 3 finale.
"It allows us to catch up with our characters after they've been through something. We find them in motion... and then fill in the blanks along the way," explains executive producer Liz Heldens.
But here's where it gets interesting: Will has been attending therapy with Dr. Roach, played by the returning Margaret Cho. Heldens points out that Will is a little unraveled, and the key art reflects that. He never examined his past, never dealt with his dyslexia, and just kept moving forward. Now, therapy is bringing up a lot of emotions.
What are the main themes of Season 4?
According to Thomsen, family is a central theme. The families we're born into and the ones we build. Will and Angie are family, but their relationship is changing. They need to figure out their new boundaries. This theme of boundaries also extends to Will and Caleb, as they navigate their father-son relationship. Amanda is also deciding how much to get involved, while Angie and Seth figure out parenthood. Ormewood is grappling with how much to share with his kids about his illness.
"A lot of characters are having to reckon with: 'Who have I always been, and who am I now?'" Heldens adds. Amanda is physically diminished and lacking confidence. Ormewood is not as strong as he used to be. Faith will also have a major romance that will cause her to question some things.
Is this a season of healing?
While some characters will be physically healing, the season is more about unraveling, questioning, and examining. Healing, as Karine Rosenthal points out, often gets uglier before it gets better. Will's in therapy, emotions come up, and he feels out of control, which is part of the healing process. Angie is experiencing the terror and excitement of having a baby, and there's something healing in that identity shift. All the characters are going through growth that may look like falling apart, but ultimately, they are getting to a place of healing.
'Will Trent' Season 4 premieres on January 6, 2026, on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.
