Get ready for a thrilling cinematic adventure as the team behind Predator: Badlands drops some major hints about an upcoming crossover with the iconic Alien franchise! The worlds of these two legendary sci-fi monsters are about to collide in a way that will leave fans on the edge of their seats.
Dan Trachtenberg, the talented writer and director behind the third Predator film, has already teased a subtle Alien crossover in his latest installment. But here's where it gets controversial: Trachtenberg wants to take a different approach, one that goes beyond the typical 'versus' formula. He aims to fuse elements from both franchises seamlessly, creating a unique and captivating experience.
In Predator: Badlands, we meet Dek, a young Predator from the Yautja clan, who teams up with a damaged synth named Thia, played by the talented Elle Fanning. This dynamic duo sets out on a mission to prove themselves and face an ultimate adversary. The film's producer, Ben Rosenblatt, describes the decision to include an element from the Alien universe as "super organic," given the deep spiritual connection between the two franchises.
"Instead of putting a human in the film, which would immediately create an emotional connection for the audience, we wanted to explore humanoid characters without humans. That's when the idea of robots came up, and Dan knew exactly who to turn to: Weyland-Yutani," Rosenblatt explained. And this is the part most people miss: the natural collision of these two iconic worlds, creating a fresh and exciting narrative.
But the potential crossovers don't end there. Rosenblatt also revealed that Arnold Schwarzenegger, the legendary actor who portrayed Dutch in the original Predator, has met with Trachtenberg multiple times to discuss a potential return to the franchise. Could we see Schwarzenegger reprise his iconic role in an upcoming sequel? Rosenblatt believes it would be the "holy grail" of Predator movies, bringing back the actor who made the franchise iconic and vice versa.
"Arnold has been incredibly supportive and interested in our vision. He's a true fan of what we've accomplished so far, and we're thrilled at the prospect of working with him again. After the release of Predator: Badlands, we'll have more conversations and hopefully create something truly special with Arnold," Rosenblatt added.
